With doing this civic engagement project I have learned so much. For my project KellyJo and I planted flowers outside the school. I feel this was a good project it brought some color to our school. Our original plan was to plant flowers around every other tree at the school, but with the way our economey is it was a problem getting donations of flowers and money. We worked with two great company's that helped us out.True Value donated a flat of flowers and Robertson's construction donated twenty five dollars so that we could go buy some more plants. We did what we could, we planted around 6 of the tree's and it looks better than what it did before. With doing this I think that it would be nice if someone could pick this back up what we did this year for next year. Maybe start early in the year with doing a fundraiser that way they could raise more money so that they could plant even more flowers than we did this year. With doing this project I think that it has opened everyone's eyes to how much our community can use the help.

SPCA Fundraiser:Brittany
For my project I decided to help out the local SPCA considering they don't get much help from our community. First of all I set up a day I was able to have the fundraiser which was Saturday May 2nd, and then I made up flyer's promoting the donation day. I then made a spring cleaning basket filled with cleaning supplies and I raffled it off for $1.00 a chance. I also made a donation can up for anyone who just wanted to donate money. The fundraiser seemed to be a success considering I raised $140.00 for the Clearfield County SPCA. I was glad to do this project because it was for such a good cause. Throughout the process of my project I learned that some people are not aware of what the SPCA is. It was after I told them a little more about the organization that they wanted to donate money to the cause. I was very surprised when I got a few responses of " What is the SPCA?". Those people who were not aware of what the organization was are now a little more educated on it and will hopefully be supportive of them. I also learned that people can be rude and not even acknowledge organizations such as the SPCA. Overall I think this project made me realize that doing things and helping out the community isn't so bad after all.I thought this project was a good experience for me and I am glad I spent the time to get more educated on what the SPCA really is. I am also glad I got to learn what they do at the SPCA and most of all learn how I can help them out. Even if its giving so much as a bag of dog food to them they appreciate every bit of it.

I want to be a Bureaucrat
In my research of looking for jobs that are through the federal government i chose a post office mail carrier. This is not my dream job or anything but i know a little bit about this job. Post office mail carriers deliver mail on a certain type of route either city or rural. Mail carriers collect and deliver mail, they usually start very early in the morning first they arrange their mail then deliver and pick the mail. They deliver mail by either foot or vehicle but sometimes both. The requirements for this job does not require any specific education requirements but they want you to have either a high school diploma or a GED. A require meant for this job is you must be able to speak good English. Also you must be at least 18 and be a citizen of the US.
The hiring process - all applicants must pass a written examination and pass both a drug test and a physical exam. You need to be able to lift a 70 pound mail sack and have a valid drivers license with a good driving record. The reason why I took an interest in this job is because my mother once delivered mail and I thought I was a fun job to have. The second job that i had picked was a PA state police officer. The job duties of this job was to provide patrol, criminal investigation and staff support services. Also to provide regulations of traffic, crime scene response and investigations, also to maintain public order and security. The starting salary for this is 50,740. The requirements for this job are; you must pass the PSP academy basic training. You must also reach the age requirement that is you must be at least 21 and under the age of 40 to apply. You must have a valid PA drivers license and a high school diploma or a GED. Also you need 60 semester college credits. In the hiring process you pretty much have to pass the test before you can even apply. The reason I have wanted to become a police officer is because it a good job with great benefits. I think that both of these jobs are reasonable jobs that people can have.

Bureaucrat* Brit
With looking into the two government bureaucrat jobs I found, I discovered many things I never new about them. I found that some possibilities of working as a government bureaucrat can take place here in Pennsylvania.
The first job I researched was for the federal government, and it was a security specialist. I found that working as a security specialist I would aid friends and neighbors in times of emergencies, and wing specialists for force protection and anti-terrorism. Times such as September 11th is an example of when I would aid those in need. The salary of this job caught my eye because the pay is about 66,562.00- 86,525.00 per year. And this job also comes with great benefits such as, flexible spending accounts, health insurance, leave, life insurance, long-term care, and a great retirement program. Although this job comes with all of these nice things, it has its requirements and special skills you would need in order to get into the program such as 52 weeks of specialized training experience to learn how to fulfill the tasks and duties of the job. I found out the hiring process is quite easy. It consists of filling out the requirement questions and sending in a detailed resume. I believe I would enjoy working as a security specialist because I enjoy helping people and I would love aiding people in the times of need. Too, the pay for this job would be great.
The second job I researched is for the Pennsylvania government and it is similar to the first job I researched although it has its ways of being different.
I researched what being a safety and occupational health specialist would be like. They assist people in managing, planning, directing, and controlling safety and occupational health programs. The nice thing about this job is that it is available in Adams County PA which is convenient because it is in Pennsylvania. The starting salary for this job is 50,408.00 per year which is good but it is not as good as the federal government job as a security specialist. This job is a full time position and the positive benefits about having this job is, competitive salaries, comprehensive health and life insurance, and a variety of good retirement programs. As a safety and occupational health specialist the training required is the same as the previous job I researched although with this job there is a substitution of education for experience unlike the last. The hiring process for this job also requires a resume with an official or unofficial transcript from the college you have previously attended. This job interests me because I enjoy helping people out so much and being able to help maintain occupational health programs would be a privileged job to have.
After looking into these two jobs, I think working as a government bureaucrat would be great due to being around and assisting to the needs of people as I like to do. The training doesn't seem too difficult, and the pay rate is immense. I am glad I chose two jobs I was interested in and looked at them in more detail.

Inauguration Blog Pd 5
Within the last couple weeks I have learned so much about the inauguration. This is the first inauguration that I have ever watched. I think that our school was much more into this inauguration one because it was history making. For the American life class we were made to watch the inauguration. We were never made to do this before. I think they should start getting even kids in the elementary involved in watching this. No one ever pushed me before to watch any inauguration. I believe it is important to watch, I learned so much by just watching this inauguration. I have learned that the Vice President is sworn in before the President. I always thought it was the other way around, but since i got a chance to watch the inauguration i now know that the Vice President is sworn in first because if something happened to the President at the inauguration that the Vice President would then be able to take over for him. We also made scrapbooks on the inauguration, we were to include information from both before and after. I think over all this was a good project and teachers may want to consider this again in the feature.

Inauguration 2009* Brit
I gained a lot of knowledge throughout the process of the 2009 inauguration. I never watched an inauguration before and I thought that it was a really cool process. I was glad to be part of watching this because it was a very important day in history. Although all inaugurations are important, this one was even more special than usual because it was the first time in history that we have ever had an African American president. I learned that the inauguration takes place in Washington D.C, and it is administered at 12:00 P.M on January 20th. I also learned that prior to the inauguration ceremony there are various activities that go on and there are also activities following the ceremony.
John Roberts administered the taking of oath of Barack Obama. Before I watched the inauguration, I had no knowledge of what the ceremony was about . Since I got a chance to watch the 2009 inauguration I am more educated on the subject and now know that the point of the ceremony is for the old president to be sworn out and the new president to be sworn in.
The media influenced me to watch the inauguration because they made it sound so interesting. Also the media seemed to have an impact on the two people I interviewed because they both said that they saw things on the television that were advertising for the 2009 inauguration, and because of these things they tried to watch as much as it as they could.
Overall I thought this project was very interesting. I enjoyed researching the different things that occurred during the inauguration including the minor mistake that was made during the ceremony. I thought it was fun learning more about the inauguration because it is a gracious topic of which our generation should be interested in.
